Sara Figueroa
Order Pending - single song

My name is Sara Figueroa Ramos and I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I became passionate for Music since my mother sang to me in her womb. I grew up listening what my father listened to: Puerto Rican folk music, Jazz, Gospel music and Motown Hits.

I began singing at church at the age of 3 where most of my musical growth started. When I was 9, I began piano lessons with Israel "Ito" Pagán.  During school, I was very active in Musical Theatre, Dance, talent shows, Flag Team, Choir and Band. During that time, I had the opportunity to participate in numerous U.S. Army Garrison community ceremonies in Fort Buchanan and Old San Juan.

I enrolled at the  University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and participated in Choir UPRRP lead by Carmen Acevedo Lucío. I had the chance to experiment with the Lyrical Theatre Workshop in the Music Department, exploring Opera, Musical Theatre and Zarzuela. Then I participated at the Jazz and Popular Music Workshop, lead by Samuel Morales Correa. It was then that I discovered the musical vocabulary that opened me doors to a world of possibilities.

In 2014, I finished my Bachelor of Arts with a major in Music, where I took Classical Voice with José Ramón Torres. Afterwards I participated at the Berklee in Puerto Rico workshops. This lead to an audition, which then lead to a scholarship offer from Berklee College of Music at Boston.

What defines me as a musician is purpose. I embrace her, music, as my loyal friend, allowing her to speak the good news of love and hope to people. I want to go against ignorance and everything that lacerates the nature of the human conscience.

I have been influenced by many artists: Crystal Lewis, Alicia Keys, Lauren Hill, Ella Fitzgerald, Celia Cruz, Thelonious Monk, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Mcferrin, Kurt Elling, Destiny's CHILD, Mayra Andrade, Sara Tavares, Leny Andrade, Mercedes Sosa and many more.

I mainly sing in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Many people describe my music as soulful, bluesy, jazzy, diverse and rich in feeling. My style has the colors of Soul, Jazz, R&B, Pop, Latin (Bolero & Bossa Nova) and Gospel music. I love diversity, therefore I continue to explore different sounds and World music.
